Want to use the Raccoon River Valley Trail to ride you bicycle right into the middle of a traditional and wonderfully-active county fair in Iowa? You can do that July 10-16 at the Greene County Fair in Jefferson. The fairgrounds are located immediately adjacent to the RRVT. Admission to the fair is free, and there are all kinds of free activities during the day. Most of the nighttime granstand entertainment requires a ticket, but admission prices are modest. You can get all the details by clicking here.

RAGBRAI XLVI -- that's the 46th annual Des Moines "Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa" -- rolls in late July, and the thousands of cyclists will be overnighting on Monday, July 23, in the Raccoon River Valley Trail town of Jefferson. While RAGBRAI never uses recreational trails for its official route -- because it is too difficult to put ambulances on a trail when thousands of bicyclists are using it -- trails that are adjacent to the route are always busier during RAGBRAI. There should be significantly more traffic than usual on the RRVT the week of July 16-July 21, when many people will use the trail to ride out to the beginning of RAGBRAI in Onawa on the western Iowa border. The RRVT should be especially busy on Sunday July 22 and Monday July 23, when many people will use the trail to join RAGBRAI for a day or two in central Iowa. For full details about RAGBRAI, click here.

Our Raccoon River Valley Trail town of Adel is known widely for its annual Sweet Corn Festival, a day-long celebration that probably most notably offers thousands of ears of free sweet corn at 11 a.m. This year's festival is the 39th, and you can get full details by clicking here.
Fridays & Saturdays
The Hotel Pattee, which the Raccoon River Valley Trail goes right in front of in the town of Perry, presents live music most Friday and Saturday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. (The occasional Thursday, too.) The shows are outdoors in Soumas Court if the weather is good, or inside the hotel if it's not. As you've probably heard, trail users are the No. 1 marketing target of Hotel Pattee owners Jay and Denise Hartz, so pedal on in for the music, and also for great dining, desserts and overnight accommodations. You can monitor the musical line-up right here: http://www.hotelpattee.com/music--events.html
