The “In the Shadow of the Rails” public art installations have been completed in Greene County, reports the Greene County Conservation Board. These are located in Jefferson, Cooper and Winkelman Switch and they consist of 13 foot tall columns with a beam extending over the trail that includes the location name. Jefferson and Cooper have double columns with the beam being lighted.
These are miniature versions of the Waukee Railroad Pergola. Designed by RDG Dahlquist Art Studio, the structures tie together the railroad heritage that now only exists as a recreational trail through the communities of the RRVT. Other installations are located at Dallas Center, Minburn, Perry and Redfield. The Greene County project was funded through grants from Iowa Great Places, Grow Greene County Gaming Commission and Iowa DOT Transportation Alternative Project.
