WAUKEE, Iowa, June 1, 2018 -- The 10th annual "Tour The Raccoon" -- a public ride sponsored by the Des Moines Cycle Club -- is being held this Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3, on the full length of the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
Riders will start Saturday morning here in Waukee, and use the "south loop" of the RRVT (through Panora) for the ride to Jefferson, the overnight destination.
Most riders will be camping at the Trailhead Campground in Jefferson, right beside the RRVT and the Greene County Fairgrounds.
On Sunday, after a continental breakfast in Jefferson sponsored by McFarland Clinic, the riders will use the "north loop" of the RRVT (through Perry) for the ride back to Waukee.
There are two new additions to the ride this year:
--There will be some staffed rest stops in less populated areas.
--There is a "gravel route option," with a guide, for those who want to venture off the paved trail for some first-hand rural Iowa experience. The gravel route will still go through all the towns on the RRVT, so people can choose to ride as much gravel as they choose -- or none at all.

Up 'til now, "Tour The Raccoon" has been held on the same weekend as the annual Bell Tower Festival in Jefferson. Moving the ride one week earlier worked better with the Des Moines Cycle Club's season-long schedule this year. The Bell Tower Festival is scheduled for June 8-10.
