JAMAICA, Iowa, Jan. 15, 2018 -- There's progress in the Raccoon River Valley Trail town of Jamaica!
Partners Chad Frantum and Jeni Hollman have a brand new building under construction right alongside the trail in the town of 218.
"We've got the new building almost enclosed now, and then we'll be starting the indoors work," Hollman said last week. "We hope to be opening up in the first part of March."
They have operated a bar by the same name for the last two and a half years, on the east side of the old school building in Jamaica. "We've just outgrown our space there," Hollman said, "and when the land came available at the new location, we decided it was time to bid."
Their first move was to go see Tommy Jo Scheuermann, owner of the popular ToJo's Bar & Grill, which has long been the principal retail business in the community.
"We went to Tommy when we first started thinking about this, because we wanted to be right with her," Hollman said. "We're not going to have food -- other than bar pizzas and snacks like that. ToJo's business has always been based more on food. She gave us her O.K., and I think both businesses will continue to do well."
Scheuermann confirmed that conversation and said on Monday, Jan. 15, that she thinks having Just One More in the new building will be good for Jamaica.
Before Frantum and Hollman began operating Just One More in that location adjacent to the school building, there'd been a bar there for several years called the Dew Drop Inn.
