Construction on the new trail surface between Waukee and Dallas Center is “getting closer” to completion, “but not finished yet.” Here’s an end-of-July update on that and other work on the new “North Loop” of the Raccoon River Valley Trail, plus five photos of the new construction that is happening.
DALLAS CENTER, Iowa, July 29, 2011 — Construction of a new stretch of the Raccoon River Valley Trail between Waukee and Dallas Center is “getting closer (to being done), but not finished yet,” according to Mike Wallace, the Dallas County Conservation director and thus the manager of the trail in that area.
“There is still some intersection paving to be done, along with some culvert work at an intersection or two,” Wallace added. “Of course, the signage and finished shoulder work needs to be done yet, too.”
Wallace told RRVT Association board members a week ago that “we’re getting close to being able to having a ride — maybe a ‘Mayors’ Ride’ — between Waukee and Dallas Center” to formally open the trail. He said “maybe we’ll be ready to have a ride like that as a Saturday morning thing in September.”
He said he is also hopeful that in September, bids can be taken for building another stretch of the RRVT’s “North Loop” — between Forest Park, which is just south of Perry, and the town of Minburn. “Probably work won’t actually get started on that until next spring,” he said.
The plan still is to complete the whole new North Loop — from Waukee through Perry to Herndon — during 2012.
