RRVT News

JEFFERSON, Iowa, February 11, 2011 – Several Raccoon Valley Snow Chasers (RVSC) snowmobile club members entertained “Snow Trails TV” staff members earlier this week. On Tuesday, February 8, the local club members Eric Chrystal, Mike Patten and Craig Flack escorted Snow Trails TV staffers on a trail ride on the Raccoon River Valley Trail system in Guthrie and Greene counties. Plentiful snow and freshly groomed trails made for very good riding conditions for the group.

“You have a great trail system here and we really enjoyed the ride,” said Mike Grant, also known as “Video Mike” by his Snow Trails TV viewers nationwide. The riders also visited Flack’s river farm west of Jefferson to do some off-trail riding. The Snow Trails TV group was in the state of Iowa for a few days, showcasing the network of snowmobile trails in the state. The group’s next stop will be the trail systems in New York state.

“Iowa is now a destination for snowmobilers,” said Chrystal, who is also the RVSC club president. “Thanks to efforts of local snowmobile clubs and with help from the Department of Natural Resources, we have a trail system in Iowa that is a destination for out-of-state riders.”

The visit to the RRVT system by a nationally known snowmobile television program is a testament to the efforts Snow Chasers club members have put forth on many fronts — from grooming the trails, posting trail signs, recruiting new members, to public relations efforts with lawmakers on the state and local levels, said Chrystal.

Look for the Snow Tracks TV episode on the Raccoon River Valley Trail system to be aired sometime next fall on the “Versus” channel, said Video Mike. More information on Snow Trails TV, including streaming video of past programming, can be found on their website by clicking here.

  • Welcome

RaccoonRiverValleyTrail.org is your online guide to a 56-mile-long paved trail along the branches of the beautiful Raccoon River through Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties.

You will experience the communities of Jefferson, Cooper, Herndon, Yale, Panora, Linden, Redfield, Adel and Waukee. And, going east, the RRVT connects with the extensive trail system in Iowa’s capital city of Des Moines

Thus, your trail experience will take you from a very vibrant metropolitan area out into some great small towns, which are located in one of the most productive agricultural regions of the world. Along your way you’ll find the food, beverages, entertainment, scenery, accommodations and ambience that will make every visit to the RRVT a memorable one.

We expect to be adding a 33-mile-long “North Loop,” with much of the work happening in 2011 and 2012. That will include the communities of Dallas Center, Minburn, Perry, Dawson and Jamaica.

All that is why we believe the RRVT is “becoming one of America’s best recreational trails.”
