COOPER, Iowa, August 8, 2010 – Two special events are scheduled for this weekend, August 13-14, that users of the Raccoon River Valley Trail might want to experience.

In Adel, the annual Sweet Corn Festival, an August tradition for about 30 years, will be held Friday and Saturday.  Free sweet corn is served downtown after the 11 a.m. parade is completed.   There is a full line-up of activities available by clicking here.

In Jefferson and Cooper, the sixth annual “Trails & Trills” bike ride will be held on the RRVT on Saturday, now sponsored by Greene County Chamber & Development.  The leisurely ride, sometimes called “Iowa’s slowest bike ride,” features musicians from around the area scattered along the eight miles of the RRVT between the Jefferson Depot and the Cooper Way Station.   Cyclists of all ages will leave the depot at 10 a.m., stop and listen to the musical performances along the way, and then in Cooper have lunch prepared by the Committee for a Super Cooper.  Riders then pedal back to Jefferson.  The registration fee of $20 includes lunch and a T-shirt.  Lunch will be sloppy Joes, chips, bars and drinks, and will be available for non-riders for the price of $4.  Participants can register com or at the Jefferson Depot the morning of the ride.  For more information call the Chamber in Jefferson at (515) 386-2155 or e-mail them at info@greenecountyiowa.com.
