We’re saying farewell – and thanks! – in the next few days to Bob Myers as he retires from the staff of Dallas County Conservation after 25 years of service. The 62-year-old Myers has worked on nearly every conservation project that has happened in Dallas County since 1985. Of special interest to us, he’s been working on the Raccoon River Valley Trail from the time it was just an idea, until now, when the 56-mile paved trail is being extended to 89 miles and is widely recognized as one of the finest recreation trails in the U.S. Myers is shown here on Wednesday, April 21, just outside the Dallas County Conservation offices at Forest Park, southeast of Perry, and behind him is a spur of the trail now under construction. That spur will bring trail users into the oasis that includes the conservation headquarters as well as the excellent county historical museum. Myers and his wife Betsy are retiring to a home they have in Silver Bay, Minnesota, on the shores of Lake Superior.
