The City of Perry this Saturday, November 14, will show off some of the new amenities on the Raccoon River Valley Trail within the city. At 10 a.m., there will be a dedication of the new Health & Wellness Shelter located in the heart of downtown. This shelter was built with funds from the Iowa Department of Health through a grant from the Center of Disease Control. Bilingual signs inside the shelter have instructions for trail safety, stretching before and during exercise, and tips on calorie control. Funds from the Dallas County Foundation purchased bike lockers for the shelter. Dallas County Hospital donated a picnic table, and the City of Perry purchased bike racks and a trash container. Dr. Eric Ash, Kim Ash, Cindy Sohn, Sarah Lenz and Butch Niebuhr, members of the shelter committee, will be on hand Saturday morning to answer questions about the project. Healthy refreshments will be provided, and peoople are urged to bring bicycles for a ride, weather permitting.
