The “Trails & Trills” bicycle ride on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, postponed in June because of bum weather, is now rescheduled for Saturday, September 5. Here are the details for the event that happens between Jefferson and Cooper, where musicians will play along the trail, there’s a good lunch and the weather will be perfect!
JEFFERSON, Iowa, July 3, 2009 — The fifth annual “Trails & Trills” bike ride, postponed by bad weather on its originally-scheduled date in early June, has now been re-scheduled for Saturday, September 5, on the Raccoon River Valley Trail between Jefferson and Cooper.
The ride always has local and regional musicians performing along the eight miles of trail between the two towns.
“If you were registered for the ride in June, that registration will be good for the ride on September 5,” said Carla Offenburger, president of the RRVT Association, one of the groups sponsoring the event.
If you were not registered previously, but would like to sign-up now, you can do so by clicking here.
Cost of the ride is $18 through August 27 (children under 10 are $14) and that includes a Trails & Trills T-shirt and lunch. After August 27, the costs are $20 and $16.
The ride on Sept. 5 will start at the Jefferson Depot at the trailhead in that town. Packet pick-up for participants, as well as on-site registration, will begin at 8:30 a.m. The ride will start at 10 a.m. Cyclists will then ride to Cooper, stopping frequently to listen to the musicians. In Cooper, there will be lunch served by the local Committee for a Super Cooper while musical groups continue to perform. Most participants then ride on back to Jefferson, although shuttle rides will be provided for those who don’t want to ride their bikes on the return trip.
The musicians will be named in stories on this Internet site a couple of weeks before the ride. Musicians who would like to perform should contact Carla or Chuck Offenburger at RRVT Association headquarters (515) 386-5488 or by e-mail at chuck@Offenburger.com.
