PERRY, Iowa, May 4, 2009 — The board of directors of the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association has decided to move its normal monthly meeting in May from a Friday noon hour to Wednesday night, May 20, in order to make it more convenient for members of the public who want to address the board.

That meeting is set at the restored Carnegie Library in downtown Perry.

The board will conduct its normal business meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. there, and that meeting is open to the public, as are all RRVTA board meetings.  Then from 7 to 9 p.m., the board members have reserved time for a public session with groups and individuals who want to make presentations to the board, ask questions or bring new ideas for consideration.

“We’ve had a couple of communities, as well as special interest groups like a snowmobilers organization, contact us wanting to come make presentations at our regular board meetings,” said RRVT Association president Carla Offenburger, of Cooper.  “It’s difficult to allow enough time for that, when our normal meetings are held on Fridays during the noon hours and have to be completed in an hour to 90 minutes.  So at our April meeting, we voted that we’re going to schedule two nighttime board meetings each year, and alert the public that those are great times to come visit with us and we won’t be rushed.”

The second such nighttime public meeting in 2009 will be held in November, but the date and location have not been set yet.

Again, the first one will be Wednesday, May 20, at the Carnegie Library in downtown Perry, with the normal RRVT Associatoin board meeting scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the open session for the public from 7 to 9 p.m.  Those groups that want to schedule appearances during this meeting can contact RRVT Association secretary Chuck Offenburger at (515) 386-5488 or by e-mail chuck@Offenburger.com.

Board member Butch Niebuhr, who is also city administrator of Perry and will host the meeting, noted that work is now being completed on the RRVT trail addition through downtown Perry.  “The Carnegie Library is a block away from that new stretch of trail,” said Niebuhr, “so people can take a walk or bicycle ride on it while they’re coming to the meeting.”

  • Welcome

RaccoonRiverValleyTrail.org is your online guide to a 56-mile-long paved trail along the branches of the beautiful Raccoon River through Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties.

You will experience the communities of Jefferson, Cooper, Herndon, Yale, Panora, Linden, Redfield, Adel and Waukee. And, going east, the RRVT connects with the extensive trail system in Iowa’s capital city of Des Moines

Thus, your trail experience will take you from a very vibrant metropolitan area out into some great small towns, which are located in one of the most productive agricultural regions of the world. Along your way you’ll find the food, beverages, entertainment, scenery, accommodations and ambience that will make every visit to the RRVT a memorable one.

We expect to be adding a 33-mile-long “North Loop,” with much of the work happening in 2011 and 2012. That will include the communities of Dallas Center, Minburn, Perry, Dawson and Jamaica.

All that is why we believe the RRVT is “becoming one of America’s best recreational trails.”
