RRVT News
This weekend of June 21-22 looks like another good one on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, which is clear of all floodwaters and fully usable all the way from Des Moines to Jefferson.
COOPER, Iowa, June 20, 2008 – The conservation directors in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties, who also double as managers of the Raccoon River Valley Trail, said on Friday that the 56-mile trail is clear and open for full use this weekend of June 21-22.
Many inquiries continue to come in from people wondering if the trail has been closed by all the flooding that has happened across Iowa. A short stretch of the trail just north of Redfield was closed for the day of June 12, when water covered it from the Middle Raccoon River. However, the water receded and the trail re-opened the following day.
It has stayed clear ever since.
Weekends in June and early July are always popular times for people to use the RRVT, particularly those who are doing training rides to get ready for the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa in later July.
